Why do I home school? #31. Field Trips.
Field trips are awesome! Did anyone else love field trip days in school? It felt like a get out of jail free card to me!
My kids love them just as much as I did and as a home school parent, I don't miss any of their field trips since I'm the chaperone and the chauffeur! It's a fun adventure for the whole family and we can all learn together.
Since we're not locked in to when we go on field trips I typically schedule to go places when the public school kids aren't there so that it's less crowded and we have more space.
For instance, I've learned that the best time to go to the Adventure Science Center or the Nashville Zoo is when public school is in session and after 1:00 pm. Those places empty out so fast and you've practically got the whole place to yourself. School buses leave and moms with little ones who need naps leave. Go on a Monday or Tuesday afternoon and it's even better!! I get to choose where we go and when which means we can go at the best times, when it's less crowded, because..... I don't like being crowded! :)
Recently, my in laws took us to the Titanic Museum in Sevierville, TN, while we were on vacation. (Thank you again you two!!) If you ever get the chance to go, I highly recommend it! It was fascinating and they had different information and fun elements to intrigue all ages. Everyone had a wonderful time especially the big kids who got to see the world's largest Lego Titantic!!! And even though we were on vacation, those 2 hours we wandered around the museum learning and having fun counted toward a school field trip for us! How cool is that!?!?
Home school field trips are the best! I love the perks of homeschooling!
